Robin Williams did make it look all too easy. Well done, Sara Bannerman. It’s not fair to measure your success by brains that are still developing….

Bannerman, I hope college is everything you deserve.

This line is money: “Imagine a teacher saying something like that to you right after you graduate and just before you go out to Olive Garden with your grandparents.” This one is going to stay with me, probably until my memory goes grey and hazy.

I’m sorry your students did that. I’m glad they’ll always remember your face in their mind’s eye and maybe be capable of making a better choice next time because of the memory.

Thank you, friend. I think having my face in their mind’s eye for the rest of their lives is appropriate punishment for what they’ve done.

There will be so many jewels in your crown someday. Loving teenagers is such hard work. Thankful that you also see and care for the ones that many others would ignore or treat poorly.

My husband teaches high school Bible and math, and I feel like this is a common plight for teachers who care.

By "settle this like men" I'm assuming you mean doing shots of whiskey and leg wrestling like Stephen Colbert and John Krasinski in that instagram reel I just watched.

I feel very many of the feelings you've put into words here. My singular homeschool student, who is also my only child, graduates next week. Thank you for the validation.

Those Blackwings you shared on my podcast note look like (and therefore are) magic wands! 🤩

I am sending you a hug. I don’t know if you like hugs, but I remember being so mad when students cheated. The most callous they and their parents were about it, the madder I got. Then they would tell me that I hadn’t given them enough time for their term paper. Because I only gave them most of the semester…and a schedule for the due dates at the beginning of the year!?! End rant. I haven’t taught high schoolers in 13 years, but they could be endearing and exasperating.

It is nice that you heard back from your former student. I had to laugh about your first thoughts on what getting into birding meant. I have dabbled in birding myself. 🤣 Luckily I am old enough not to care how I look with binoculars, I am only concerned that my binoculars not give me neck pain after the hike…but my husband has us covered with a chest harness for them instead of a cord around the neck. It is camo since I think they had hunters in mind versus someone sneaking up on passerines.

Hugs much appreciated. 😊 I am also getting interested in birding, although I haven’t invested in binoculars yet.
