I have never been to the UK, it is definitely on my someday list. I agree that places are more complicated than our mental pictures of them or our interactions with a couple people. The relationship begins when we let it be complicated. I find it helpful to acknowledge that fallen human beings live everywhere. Your description of the man who just went for jollity in his embarrassment was great. I am similarly luminous in bright light, so we might be related 🤣

UK Hutchmoot seems like the stuff dreams are made of. I wish I could go and I hope you have a wonderful time!

I HOPE I can go. I’ve heard it’s pretty tricky getting tickets to these things. Even the remote ones.

My favourite line was "this gent was rotund and pasty white like a marshmallow..." I laughed out loud! I love your storytelling. <3

Loving a place in spite of the people is just a step behind loving it because of the people. Hope you meet some British friends on the next trip!

When was your first trip? Speaking of Bryson, I would like "A Short History" of all nine. I wanted to go this fall, as I much prefer the mouldy time of year, but it wasn't meant to be. Where will UKmoot be held next July, do you know?

I just got back Wednesday night. It was a fairly “short” trip of about 8 days. I would love to visit in the fall. I’ve heard that’s ideal for avoiding tourists and college students and midges.

I need to look up where in the UK it’ll be. I’ve only heard it won’t be in Oxford.

This is so good--every part true.

And yes, it really is the people of places that make it worth the stay, blond back hair and all!

So there’s a scene in “the way” (movie about the Camino) where that same man is in his speedo undies, hanging his laundry. I have the enduring memory of that same man on my hike, day 2!)

I laughed when you laughed at the post!!!!

Let me check my Greenland cruise. I’m afraid it’s in July or else I’d be your huckleberry (doc holiday in Tomestone—misquoted by the entire theater going crowd because it’s supposed to be ‘huckle bearer’ like the coffin, but Ilike huckleberry better)
